Frenkie de Jong has denied any previous speculation about his injury and situation at Barcelona.

Barcelona’s Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong spoke to Barca One on Sunday about all the rumours surrounding him, especially his huge wage demands.

Frenkie has been the subject of much media headlines in recent months despite not playing for Barcelona since injuring his right ankle in late April, with speculation over his recovery from the injury – which saw the player refuse surgery at the club’s request – and his future amid a contract situation that expires in the summer of 2026.

Negotiations over a new contract between Frankie and Barcelona have reportedly stalled over the past 12 months, with the club hoping to see him take a pay cut, but the player has been reluctant to respond. Now, in an interview with Barca One, the 27-year-old has rubbished all speculation surrounding him.

‘They said a lot of things about me that I didn’t want to have surgery. Throughout my recovery from the injury, I chose to keep quiet. It’s not true that the club told me to have surgery, but I didn’t because everyone at the club, the medical team and myself agreed that surgery was not the best option. I had three ankle injuries in the same place, which UFABET affected me quite a bit mentally. ‘

‘They paid me a lot of money, a very high figure, like 37m euros, which is far from that. I’m not even close to that amount, I’m far from that. I understand people who are upset because they think I’m getting a lot of money. They said he needs an operation, but he doesn’t want to, and he’s on holiday, he’s not training, but that’s not true,’ the Dutch midfielder said.
